Eyecure oogmasker

npk design developed the ‘Eyecure’ eye mask in close collaboration with ophthalmologists.
This enables patients with chronical eye diseases such as blepharitis (eyelid inflammation) or a dysfunctional tear production to effectively treat themselves at home. The design team worked out different solutions, of which the straightforward design based on sodium acetate stood out because of its relatively quick development. This is a good example that existing technology can be ground breaking in a new application.
When the user clicks the small metal plate, the green solution starts to crystallise and release heat. In combination with special cotton-wool lotion pads, this will heal the eyes. The crystallisation reaction in the mask is reversible, allowing the user to prepare the mask for the next treatment.
Both ophthalmologists and patients are excited about the results.
