Cirrus D20 analysis device
In an integral design project, npk design worked intensively on developing and implementing BiosparQ’s brand, corporate and product identity. npk design teamed up with BiosparQ to design and develop the Cirrus D20 analysis device. The design process focused on component layout, user experience and user interface design. The prototype was produced in our own model construction workshop. BiosparQ’s entire corporate style, trade show presentation and website were also redesigned. Our photographer handled the product photography.
The earlier the cause of a patient’s infection can be detected, the earlier the right antibiotics can be administered to that patient. The unique BiosparQ technology – single-cell MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry – enables real-time bacterial profiling directly from a sample. The full bacterial composition can be determined within a few minutes after the sample has been taken.
This avoids the time-consuming cultivation process and the need for an expensive laboratory infrastructure or highly trained personnel. For daily use of this technology in hospitals and large medical practices, BiosparQ is working together with npk design to design and develop the Cirrus D20.

In April 2019, the new corporate identity and the Cirrus D20 were successfully presented at the ECCMID 2019 international congress and trade show in the RAI Amsterdam. Subsequently, npk design has been working on refining the Cirrus D20 by developing multiple user cases for analysts and experts, product design and engineering, packaging of consumables and more.
