Safe communication in critical situations
ARMA Instruments
Secure Communicator
Safe communication is crucial and can sometimes even save lives. Based in Switzerland, ARMA Instruments specialises in the security of mission-critical communication. Its target user groups are professionals in the army, the police, the legal and financial sectors, government bodies and NGOs that need to be able to operate safely all over the world.
In our highly interconnected world, cybersecurity is being challenged all the time.
ARMA uses ‘dynamic identity’ to hide user data and metadata. It pays extra attention to reducing the attack surface of the communication device.
Design language and reliability
Many of the existing secure devices look like generic, large mobile phones. The challenge for our creative team was to design a mobile personal communicator that is NOT a mobile phone.
The design language emphasises the reliability of the device, its high-tech use and the certainty that it will perform well in every conceivable critical situation.
At the very first meeting, our designers already had a concept that impressed ARMA. The design was spot-on to start with, and was optimised even more during the development process.
Important role for model shop
At a very early stage, our model makers create an initial model (from PVC) so that the designers and the client can get a clear idea of the design. By being able to hold a tangible object and experience its true dimensions, the client can see straight away whether we are on the right track or not. At a later stage, we also present models as renderings (3D visualisations).
For ARMA, our model shop created not only an aluminium model, but also a stainless-steel display model. ARMA uses both models for presentations at trade shows and important customer meetings.
High-quality production processes such as forged carbon fibre, Gorilla Glass and the use of shock-proof materials guarantee that the communicator will work under all circumstances and in every location.
Building on a zero trust approach, the device operates as standalone. The serverless infrastructure and coded end-to-end communication (the ARMA Linux operating system) make it possible to safely connect to the mobile network.
User Interface Design
Our designers paid a great deal of attention to use of the Secure Communicator in stressful situations. This must be made as intuitive and as simple as possible. ARMA was delighted that our designers also have the right expertise in this area. It means that as a client, you don’t have to keep informing new cooperation partners. That saves a great deal of time and energy.
