Octalarm-Touch alarm device

Adésys manufactures industrial alarm devices and modems that safeguard technical systems; it has been market leader for the telephone alarm devices product group in the Netherlands for quite some time. To ensure that the company maintains this position and increases its international market share, Adésys has called in npk design to develop the housing for their new Octalarm-IP device.

Monitoring and alerting requirements for technical breakdowns have become increasingly stringent during the past years. At the same time, process control in the industrial, agricultural and market gardening sectors is becoming more and more complex and extensive. So reliability is literally of vital importance in respect of alarm devices.

Our strategy

After an initial briefing and kick-off meeting in order to make an inventory of all wishes and requirements, our designers got to work straight away. We held a number of overview and brainstorming sessions during which we examined various preliminary ideas and drafts. In consultation with Adésys, we eventually opted for the concept design that best fits the target group’s needs and wishes. The decisive factor in this respect was giving the new housing a
calm, serious, timeless and robust appearance.

Team work and prototyping

Engineers, model makers and designers have collaborated intensively right from the start. We convert our ideas into visual and functional models at a very early stage in order to validate these ideas and evaluate them against real-life situations.

innovation procedure

One of the biggest challenges facing us during the innovation procedure was to ensure the greatest possible flexibility for the alarm device. Technicians must easily be able to link up various sensors and cables for dial-out options to the alarm device without having to dismantle it completely. Our experts also contributed advice and constructive input when designing the touch screen controls.

Result

All this has resulted in an eminently reliable alarm device inside a cleverly-designed housing with easy-to-use controls. And this in turn means that Adésys and its customers are all set for the future.
